The future of office

At the moment there is a heated debate within companies about the impact of the lock down enforced home office for white collar workers. Meanwhile in Germany 74 % of office workers go to their desks, but only half of them are there five days a week. Sporadic attendance in offices is the new normal. It is becoming apparent that in future we will have a hybrid model between home office and office presence.

Behind the well-known arguments against home office – no spontaneous exchange that leads to creative ideas, lack of bonding, etc. – all too often, the core of the argumentation of opponents of the home office is the fear of losing control. And indeed, leading at a distance is a great challenge for leadership. More is needed in management to combine the advantages of physical presence with those of the home office in a way that is most beneficial to the company.
